WestNet connects 2,500th broadband customer
The only way is up for Mayo broadband company WestNet who have just connected their 2,500th customer. The target-hitting customer was Mountain View Securities, a construction business which needed a broadband connection quickly at their development site in Belcarra. The only way is up for Mayo broadband company WestNet who have just connected their 2,500th customer. The target-hitting customer was Mountain View Securities, a construction business which needed a broadband connection quickly at their development site in Belcarra. It is quite literally, fast internet access in the middle of a field.

Difficulty in getting access to broadband is an ongoing problem and gripe for many rural dwellers. Thankfully an increasing number of people living in Mayo can get an efficient connection through WestNet. Since setting up business five years ago they have established over a hundred local access points and a high capacity licensed wireless backbone running the length of the county. The network reaches from Charlestown to Achill, and a quick call to WestNet will confirm whether your house or business can be connected.

Having a good broadband service is essential in this day and age, especially for businesses. It’s literally not an option anymore for a rural entrepreneur to set up a business without having broadband. It would be almost like trying to run a business without a telephone.

According to WestNet Operations Manager Peter Moore, the Mountain View connection uses brand new technology, “We have introduced WiMAX transmitters for busier broadband locations. This gives an excellent service to a greater number of customers over a wider area. The Network is in a constant state of expansion and technological advances, in order to deliver a fast, stable service throughout Mayo there is multiple high capacity licensed links connecting our network to the National fibre networks in Ballina and Galway”

Mountain View Securities are very positive about their broadband experience. Catriona Lavelle, Site Engineer, said, “It’s a really efficient service. We are very happy with our WestNet broadband connection. It’s very fast and we can run our site offices very effectively from the current location in Belcarra”.

Westnet CEO and co-founder Paul Cunnane commented: “We started building our network in 2005 in order to bring high-quality Internet access to rural homes and businesses. There's a great deal of personal satisfaction in helping companies like Mountain View Securities to do business in the West of Ireland.”

WestNet are bucking the recessional trend by continuing to grow and thrive. They now employ 6 staff members in their Castlebar office and around the county. Well, 2,500 Mayo customers can’t be wrong.
